Hello! My name is Angela {Angie} Spaeth. I grew up in St.Cloud, MN with my Mom. It was just the two of us. My Mom made it magical! St.Cloud at the time had a pubic pool, amazing library system and Boys and Girls clubs. I had plenty to do while my Mom worked. It was a different time. No cells phones and we came home at dinner! I participated in many activities as well. Such as dance, plays, basketball and choir. My best friends growing up were my cousins on my Mom’s side and I’m lucky to say they still are!
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My husband and I met in the late 90’s but did not start dating until 2005. We have been married 17 years and together 20. It is a huge milestone for both of us! When we met we both talked about wanting a big family! We had 4 children under 5 when all of our kids were born. First came Parker and Dillon, our irish twins! Parker will be 18 in Augst 2025. Dillon is currently 17. Our daughter Camryn is 14. Our youngest is 12. My kids have been registered in the Big Lake School district since ECFE! Parker will be graduating in 2026. Dillon will be a Junior. Cam will be in 8th grade this year and Dean will be in 7th grade. They participate in Football, Dance, Baseball, Track, and Baseball. We are very busy somedays but we wouldn’t have it any other way!
Q: How long have you lived and/or worked in Big Lake?
We have lived in Big Lake since the winter of 2009.
Q: Tell us about your current, past, or future career.
I graduated from Tech High School in 2004. When Parker and Dillon were young, I went back to school for nursing. After ten years or so at home as a SAHP, I went back to full time work at the Big Lake School district. I had volunteered for many years in the district so it was definitely a place I wanted to be! I started in the cafeterias and subbing at all the schools as the nurse. About 5 years ago I moved into preschool but recently accepted a position at Independence Elementary School as the Front Desk Assistant. I will very much miss my preschool and Liberty family, but I am very excited to start a new opportunity at Indy! I will also still work summers at Kids Club/Hive Time!
Q: What are 2 things you never leave the house without?
2 things I never leave the house with out…My Phone and Purse
Q: What is something about you that surprises people?
That I’m an only child. I think because we have such a big family for 2025, people are shocked!
Q: What is your go-to comfort food?
Anything that has rice, meat and veggies!
Q: What is one thing your Dream House would have?
Lots of land, but small house! I don’t like cleaning up after people, lol!
Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies?
My favorite hobbies are being with my family and extended family. Like it is literally my favorite thing to do! We are blessed to have a few family members who live up north and or on lakes! We definitely don’t get to go enough, as we are so busy, but it will forever be my favorite hobby! Also talking, I can talk forever.
Q: What is one thing on your Bucket List?
I would love to travel to the Philippines, Laos, Cambodia and Japan!
Q: What has been a challenge you’ve had to overcome? (Life, work, school, etc.)
I would never say I overcame it, because like a lot of things it ebbs and flows, but my anxiety and depression. I have done therapy off and on my whole life. It takes many tools and time but I feel like I am so blessed to know there is help out there!
Q: Who has been a hero, mentor, major influence in your life?
My Mom! She raised me with very little help. Honestly as a Mom now, I can’t believe she raised me ALONE! That has to be so incredibly hard at times, but we DID IT! Now she is the most incredible Mimi to my family!
Q: What has been your proudest accomplishment so far?
My Family! My husband, Ben and I truly have the best kids! I can’t believe they are ours! I am so proud of them and their accomplishments. I say it all the time that they are light years ahead of me at their ages! I hope to raise productive, stable, adults!
Q: What are some of your favorite Big Lake Establishments? (Restaurants, shops, businesses, etc.)
El Teca Barber Shop. They are very talented! The Big Lake Sports assosiciations. There are too many to name but we have been apart of the sports community for many years and I am always in awe of the things they accomplish year after year. Last but not least the Big Lake School District. They may be the little engine that could if you compare to other districts in our area, BUT our family has had amazing experiences in our district and I hope to support them long after all of my kids have graduated!
Q: What is one of your favorite things about Big Lake?
It is not too small and not too big.
Q: Who is someone that should be included in the Face of Big Lake? (Please share their contact info if you have it)
Molly Ripp, ECFE teacher.
