Hi I’m Lauren Eid and I’m a Reading Intervention teacher at Liberty Elementary. I’ve been at Liberty teaching full time since 2013 and I love being a part of the Big Lake school family. My husband, Beau, and I are usually quite busy with our boys and their activities and sports. I currently serve on the Big Lake Youth Football Association and Beau coaches basketball and assistant coaches football. We really enjoy being involved in the community and love the friends we have made here

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I actually met my husband Beau at the Friendly Buffalo in 2010 and that’s how I ended up in Big Lake. We got married in 2012 and have two wonderful boys, Tristan who is 9 and Ethan who is 7. They are both such funny kids! We have a rescue dog named Owen and a bearded dragon named Beardy. I have my mom and dad and 1 brother. I’m very close to my in-laws and am an auntie to several kids.

Q: How long have you lived and/or worked in Big Lake?
Beaus family owns Steve’s Elk River Nursery and we live close by. We are technically Elk River residents but we open enroll both of our boys in Big Lake and are active members in the Big Lake community. I grew up in St. Francis and Beau grew up in New London Spicer.

Q: Tell us about your current, past, or future career.
I started substitute teaching in 2010 and in 2013 I was hired by Caryl Gordy to teach kindergarten at Liberty Elementary and I never left. I made the switch to teaching reading last year and am so thankful to be a part of the Liberty school family. Prior to my teaching career I was a nanny and worked at the YMCA.

Q: Have you ever had a nickname? What is it and why were you given it?
My parents and brother always call me Sis.

Q: What is your favorite TV Show, Movie, Book? (Please list as many as you’d like!)
We really like the shows 1883 and 1923. I also like New Girl and Schitt’s Creek – really any feel good shows. For a movie, I enjoy Hope Floats. I love to read and like anything by Kristin Hannah or Fredrik Backman. Two books that I really enjoyed were Tattooist of Auschwitz and Book of Lost Names.

Q: If you could only eat one food/meal and have one beverage for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I would absolutely choose any Lebanese food. I am Lebanese on my moms side and my husbands step mom is also Lebanese so I get amazing food on both sides! There is a great deli in Minneapolis called Emily’s that I highly recommend! As for drink- water or fizzy waters.

Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies or pastimes?
We spend most of our extra time at the boys’ sports. Right now they both play baseball, basketball and football and Beau and I help in some capacity. Beau coaches our son Tristan’s basketball team and also acts as assistant coach for football. I spent a year as a flag football coach for each boy and now serve on the board for BLYFA. I also help support at basketball for our younger son. It’s definitely busy but I am so thankful for our sports families/friends. When I’m not busy with the boys’ sports, I enjoy reading, exercising – walking and biking, and 4-wheeling. We really just love being outdoors.

Q: What is one thing on your bucket list?
I hope to travel more with my family. I don’t necessarily have a bucket list, but I hope to live my life fully and be present in each day.

Q: What would you buy/do if you won the lottery?
I would set aside money for our boys for their futures, would give back to our families, set aside money for retirement and travel. We’d also love to donate to charities and organizations in our community that have supported us.

Q: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would be a better listener.

Q: Who has been a hero in your life?
My parents. They have shown me how to overcome hurdles in marriage and build a strong marriage. They demonstrated good communication, growth and patience.

Q: What is something even your family and friends may not know about you?
I snap my fingers with my pinky only!

Q: What is your proudest accomplishment?
Being a mom and a wife. Life is better than I could have ever expected.

Q: What are a few of your favorite businesses / restaurants in Big Lake?
Camo Flare and Subway – the kids working there are fantastic! They are thoughtful and provide great service. Also, Ember Coffee and Kwik Trip. They are always willing to offer their partnership to groups like youth football.

Q: What is one of your favorite things about Big Lake?
Big Lake has a small town feel and you can get to know the people and have connections throughout the city. We have made wonderful friends with other parents and we are able to serve the community.

Q: What advice would you give to people living in Big Lake?
Get involved in things like community ed and ECFE programs. Reach out to others, the school, or your neighbors. People here are always willing to help.

Q: Who is an interesting person in our community that you’ve met and deserves to be included in The Faces of Big Lake project?
Sarah Markfort – She does so much in this community and I’ve had all 3 of her kids in kindergarten so she has been a big part of my teaching journey. Also, Tracy Koesel. She is on the basketball board, involved in many sports groups, and helps in the community. Finally, Stacie Boeckman. She has been here many years, is a wonderful teacher, and is now doing Reading Intervention as well.
