Tell us a little about your family – parents, siblings, pets, etc.
I have 3 siblings, Cort, he is engaged to his wonderful fiancé Linzy and they will be getting married this July. My sister Keily is graduating from River Land Community College in Austin MN with a certificate for massage therapy. I also have a twin brother, Gage, who will be graduating with me this year. We were all raised by my wonderful parents, Amy and Jeremy Schuman, who have been married for 25 years. We have a dog named Akira who is a German Shepherd and Black Lab mix. She is super goofy and has such a personality.

What are some of your hobbies and/or interests?
I love to listen to music, play video games, hang out with friends, and shoot trap.

Tell us about a favorite school memory (any grade)
Winning Snow daze King sticks out to me. I loved the entire week of activities and winning Snow Daze King was the cherry on top. Also the time my friends and I made some s’mores and hotdogs the night before the last day of school last year was great.

Tells us about a favorite teacher, coach, school staff member, etc. who made a difference in your life/education (can include more than one and any grade).
I have so many favorites and will only mention a few. First, Bob Blanchard because he had been an excellent coach and role model and has helped me figure out my college situation by getting me in contact with a college football coach to do some student coaching while I’m in college. Also, Mark Spainer, he has been a wonderful role model and is a large part of the reason I want to be a social studies teacher.

What has been your favorite subject to study in school and why?
Social studies because I’ve always enjoyed history and government. It’s something that interests me and keeps me focused.

What has been the most challenging part of senior year for you?
I’ve been so ready to graduate all year that it makes it difficult to be “present” in school. I’m always thinking about the future and what it holds for me. It can be distracting but I think I’ve done a good job managing it.

What has been the best part of senior year?
Senior year has definitely been the best year of high school. I’ve had the opportunity to take more fun classes, such as pottery, which I have enjoyed very much.

Have you made any plans for after graduation (additional schooling, work, etc.) and if so, what are they?
I’m attending the University of Wisconsin River Falls to pursue a degree in secondary education with a focus on broad social studies.

Where do you see yourself in 5, 10 years? What goals do you have for the future?
I hope that I will have graduated college and the dream is to be able to come back to Big Lake to teach and possibly coach football.

Tell us a one or two dreams/bucket list items you have for yourself
I want to go to Greece because I love the history there and want to have a chance to experience it.

Are there any classmates who made a positive difference in your life/education that you would like to mention?
There are so many classmates that have made a positive difference for me and I’d like to mention a few. Broden Johns, he’s been a good friend of mine for a while and I love hanging out with him and getting in some trouble occasionally. Also, Kyle Ginther, Kyle and I have been great friends for a while but through high school we’ve made some good memories together. All my friends know that I appreciate them and I can’t thank them enough.

What are some things you like about our city of Big Lake in general?
I love how when I go anywhere in town I always feel welcomed. I feel safe here and love being able to go to local businesses and supporting them. I’ve lived here my entire life and couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.

What Big Lake establishments/businesses/restaurants are your favorites?
I have a few but I’d like to mention The Buff and Trails. I loved going to Trails after football games throughout my high school career and vividly remember doing it in my pee wee days as well. The Buff has also been an establishment that my family and I frequent. We love the live entertainment and the many different activities that go on there, plus the service is always great.

What advice would you give younger students as they continue their education?
Relax, take your time, do your homework, but, have some fun along the way. It goes by too fast to not have fun along the way.
