Tell us a little about your family – parents, siblings, pets, etc.
I’m very thankful to be surrounded by several family members in the nearby areas. One set of my grandparents, Jan and Tom, live in Monticello, while my other grandparents, Jane and Gary, live in Zimmerman. My immediate family consists of my parents, Sara and Ryan, and my older brother Alex. I also have three dogs, whose names are Lola, Bentley, and Denahi.

What are some of your hobbies and/or interests?
I am a big sports guy! I love watching and playing any and all sports. I also enjoy being outdoors, especially fishing, tubing, hiking, and biking. I really enjoy travelling as well. I’ve had the chance to go to Scotland/England, Washington, D.C., Hawaii, Colorado, and the Black Hills, to name a few.

Tell us about a favorite school memory (any grade)
My favorite school memory comes from my junior year of high school. I decided to muster up enough courage to perform a trumpet solo at the Solo and Ensemble contest for band. While there, I had the opportunity to listen to remarkable musicians from around our section. The talent I observed was outstanding, and I was glad to be a part of that day. I was incredibly surprised to receive a superior rating for my solo, which far exceeded my expectations.

Tells us about a favorite teacher, coach, school staff member, etc. who made a difference in your life/education (can include more than one and any grade).
I have been fortunate enough to have several people influence me during my life. Two people that stand out are Mrs. Heidi Olson and Mr. John Bruns. Mrs. Olson has been my band director these past four years, and she has helped me grow immeasurably; both in musicality and confidence. Mr. Bruns was my Cross Country coach for 3 years, and instilled in me the importance of having faith in myself, perseverance, and the true meaning of teammates. Both of these mentors have taught me that “We is greater than Me.”

What has been your favorite subject to study in school and why?
My favorite subject has always been Social Studies. I remember playing geography and history games with my brother as far back as I can remember. I enjoy learning about people, cultures, geography, and history from around the world.

What has been the most challenging part of senior year for you?
One of the most challenging things about my senior year is the uncertainty of what my future holds. For the past 14 years, every fall I’ve started a new school year in Big Lake. Now that I am graduating, that won’t be the case. Participating in many of my activities for the last time has also been difficult. I will miss being with my friends and no longer take for granted the time I spend with them, as I know these times are limited.

What has been the best part of senior year?
My favorite part of my senior year has been having met most of the required classes, allowing me to partake in several elective classes. I’ve enjoyed having the opportunities such as guitar, physical education classes, and foreign languages.

Have you made any plans for after graduation (additional schooling, work, etc.) and if so, what are they?
After graduating, I will be attending Minnesota State University-Mankato for an undergraduate degree. I am proud to carry on the legacy of six other family members who have attended MSUM before me.

Where do you see yourself in 5, 10 years? What goals do you have for the future?
While I’m uncertain of what my future holds, I am hoping that in 5-10 years, I will be happy and healthy.

Tell us a one or two dreams/bucket list items you have for yourself
I hope to travel a lot when I’m older. I want to visit all 50 states, as well as several European countries. I want to go skydiving and attend a World Series championship game in baseball -preferably the Twins.

Are there any classmates who made a positive difference in your life/education that you would like to mention?
I have had the opportunity to make several friends throughout my life: April, Mikey, Kadin, Vejay, Brady, Alec, Max, Olivia, and Jaden, to name a few.

What are some things you like about our city of Big Lake in general?
I like the small town atmosphere that’s only an hour away from major sporting events, theatres, museums.

What Big Lake establishments/businesses/restaurants are your favorites?
The establishments which I have enjoyed include The Lake Cafe, The Buff, Willy’s on the Water, Coborn’s, and Cocoa Maas.

What advice would you give younger students as they continue their education?
I would say to always take chances, even if you are scared to do so, and seize opportunities when they present themselves. I feel that being involved in all the activities that I was, made me the person I am today.
